Ceramics

With an almost pure crystalline structure, ceramics are typically much more resistant to shock when they have a smaller grain particle size and a surface free of defects or inclusions. Where the particle size will soon be addressable in our new patented technology, it is now possible to create nearly perfect surfaces on even the most complex and convoluted configurations. By using ultra high energy and proportionally smaller abrasive particles, an exclusive capability of the MIKRONITE® system, ceramics are made orders of magnitude more robust by reducing their brittle tendencies; which begin by fractures propagating out of surface defects, cracks or inclusions. Brittle ceramics can now have tensile strength approaching their compressive limits. This system can be used to improve pure ceramic product or ceramic coated metals. In addition ceramics are ideal lens materials in infrared wavelength optics. It is now possible with the MIKRONITE® system to polish the compound optical systems that allow access of these desirable frequencies to new frontiers in medicine, defense systems, and science.
